Start in the kitchen, because it's where deposits are lost. Clean inside the oven and under the burners, pull the refrigerator out and clean behind and beneath it, wipe inside every cabinet and drawer, degrease the range hood and backsplash, and scrub the sink until the faucet base is spotless.
Bathrooms come next. Remove soap scum from shower glass and tile, scrub grout lines, clean inside the vanity, polish fixtures, and check the exhaust fan cover, which is almost always furred with dust. Toilets get cleaned inside, outside, and around the base.
In every other room, the empty-house details matter: baseboards and door frames wiped, switch plates and door handles cleaned, closet shelves dusted, window sills and tracks vacuumed, walls spot-cleaned for scuffs, ceiling fans and light fixtures dusted. Floors are always last, vacuumed edge to edge and mopped on the way out the door.
